The New Era of Paid Social
Within the last couple of years, Snapchat has attracted upwards of 200 million users. Many brands have used Snapchat to experiment with different strategies to reach new groups of audiences. For a day of advertising, Snapchat makes a minimum of $750,000.
$750,000 for one day of advertising is about 50% higher than a day for Youtube. Snapchat is an extremely young social media brand, and is already attracting huge buyers such as McDonald’s, Samsung, Macy’s and Universal!
As different platforms such as Snapchat mature and become more popular, the begin to look at big brands as ways to create revenue and they encourage paid participation through advertising products and sponsored content.
The shift towards paid social media has been extremely dramatic on Facebook within the last year. Twitter is predicted to move towards a different model, where the system will determine specific content that will be most interesting for that user based on their personal preferences. Instagram has been seen using its paid advertising product, as well.
