How to Improve Your ‘Tweeting’ Skills
For many people, using Twitter is like second nature, while for others, it can be more difficult to get into the swing of things. Twitter is one of the many outstanding social networking tools that are prominent in our society today. In order to be successful or relevant in today’s business world, you must be familiar with social networking…especially Twitter.
On Twitter, there are two types of users: the one’s that are involved, and the one’s that are not. If you want to be well-known in today’s business world, you must be involved on Twitter and other social networking tools. If you are not too familiar with Twitter, here are a couple different ways you can start to build up your Twitter game.
#1. Create your bio. When you are editing your Twitter profile, you must first add an appropriate and relevant photo of yourself. If you are involved in a certain field, try and post a photo of yourself that is relevant to what you are apart of. Make sure that your photo is appropriate and is something that you would not mind having your boss or co-workers see. Next, you must create a biography. This must be short and sweet, however, it must capture the most important things about you. It could be an inspirational quote, your job title, or even a fun fact about yourself. Whatever you choose to put as your biography, make sure, once again, that it is appropriate and relevant.
#2. Share content (a lot). In order for you to stay active on Twitter, you must work to share as much content as you can, without looking like a spammed account. If the content is extremely important to your business or your networking, make sure you share it more than once. Sharing your content repeatedly will force people to view it and get a feel for what you are talking about. This is a great way to get the word out there!
#3. Keep it Visual. One ‘tweet’ has 140 characters. This means that you only have a certain amount of letters, numbers and symbols to convey what you are trying to get across. When it comes to sharing news or content, people love visuals. Try and include some sort of photo or graphic in mostly all your tweets. A visual will help capture people and will allow them to then view whatever it was that you wrote. Sometimes, you do not even need to write anything- a picture can tell it all!
#4. Favorite and Retweet Important Content. If you come across a tweet that you are extremely interested in, do not be afraid to retweet it on to your own account. A lot of times, especially when it comes to the business platform, you will come across tweets that actually have extremely useful content for your personal or business life…favorite it! If you work to favorite content that is useful and important to you, you can always go back and view it again. This is a great way to ‘bookmark’ important ideas and messages that you do not want to forget about.
#5. Be social! Finally, what is most important is that you be social! Twitter, after all, is a social networking tool… meaning you must become a ‘social butterfly’ and communicate with your friends and followers. Being social is a great way to network yourself and get people to recognize your name. If someone tweets something interesting, write a response! Getting to know your followers on Twitter is an awesome way to stay in the loop.
These are some key ideas that will help to jumpstart you to be as successful as possible on Twitter, and other social networks!
