Integrating Twitter Into Your Social Networking Strategy
Hopefully you’ve had the chance to practice your new Facebook tactics over the past couple of weeks, and you may have even noticed that your page is growing in popularity a little bit, perhaps some shares, some more likes, or just more people seeing your posts in general. Keep up the good work, and you’ll only see it keep growing. But you can’t stop there, no, just when you thought you must have this social networking business all figured out, I’m going to tell you that you need to do MORE. Our next step is Twitter.
Twitter as a social network that is all about speed. Posts must be 140 characters or less, and it is a great way to reach a wide audience of people(as of March of this year the site had over 500 million users). Twitter was the pioneer of hashtagging, and monitoring popular hashtags, and using hashtags to lump your tweets in with other similar posts is a great way to quickly gain followers.
As usual, the more you follow- the more that will follow you. Take the time weekly to find relevant users and accounts to follow. Twitter is unfortunately not as easy to track analytically as Facebook can be, so the best things to watch to see if what you’re doing on Twitter is working is watch followers, mentions, favorites, and retweets. If you’re seeing some action in any of these- keep it up.
Words to the wise with Twitter- resist the urge to tweet many messages a day, especially in a row. This social network is very easy to zoom past posts, especially when users see many posts from the same company or person in a row. Unless you’re doing something really special, like live tweeting some event, conducting a Q&A with users, or something of that nature- a good rule of thumb is to keep it around 2 posts a day.
Let People Know They Can find You On Twitter
You can link your twitter and your Facebook together, so people can see they can find you on both, and tweeting or posting on Facebook where else your followers can find you is always a good idea.
