5 Ways to be More Compelling on Social Media
When involving yourself on social media, it is important that everything that you bring to the table is compelling and interesting for others. Your reputation on social media is extremely important not only for yourself but for your networking and any future employers.
Social media is a tool that is used for anything and everything these days, including shopping, news, networking, communicating, educating and more. No matter what reason you are using social media for, here are five ways that you can create more compelling content to make your name stand out on the web.
#1. Write about what is popular. Whatever the latest buzz is- write about it! Put your two cents in to the current situation, whether you support it or not. You must keep track of what is popular during that specific time so that your posts can stay current. People want to read about current news, trends, etc. If you want people to read what you are putting out there, make sure it is relevant.
#2. Engage your audience. When writing about anything, ask questions. Make your readers want to engage themselves in whatever you are putting out there. If people are engaged in what you are writing, they will be more likely to participate by liking, commenting, retweeting, etc. This is a great way to get the ball rolling and have educational conversations that will network yourself and also allow you and others to learn something new.
#3. Work on social listening. Being successful isn’t just about what you write or post, but also how much you notice of what others are posting. Be aware of your surroundings, and make sure to keep up on what other people are writing and posting. This is a great way to find out what the latest thing people are talking about is, or if you are using social media for a company, what people are craving to see. If you can scope out what people are looking for, you can do your best to provide that through your social media techniques.
#4. Freebies and Samples. When posting on any form of social media, use samples, freebies, newsletters and/or promotional products to get people involved in what you are writing about. If you are writing about your company’s newest product, send out samples so people can get a more realistic view of what it is that you are actually saying. People will want these free items, newsletters, etc… so they will be more likely to be involved in your social media.
#5. Don’t be afraid to be controversial. If there is a current topic out there that is extremely controversial-write about it! Do not be afraid to anger people. Writing about controversial topics is a way to get people to comment and say their opinion on the subject. Even though there will be people that will disagree with you, it will spark conversation and is great for networking.
